Pillow Covers

My first attempt at pillowcases. I'm not a fan, incidentally. I wanted removable ones, since the whole point was so I could wash them on occassion. So I did the flap in the back. Winning Moronic Moment: This time I faced all the fabric face down when I pinned it "inside out", so that one side (the side I laid down while sewing, so I didn't notice til it was sewn tight) was actually right side out. I recommend an exacto knife to undo tight stitching. They turned out well in the end, all things considered.

Better than Spaghetti Sauce

Hearty Porky Pasta Sauce
While trying to come up with a way to employ ground pork in a meal, low carb style, I basically started with spaghetti sauce in mind, and kept adding stuff to make it more filling, so I would eat less pasta. I ended up ditching the ragu altogether, and just adding a can of diced tomatoes. It was scruptious.
1lb ground pork
1 green pepper
1 onion
1 small can olives (I used minced because it's what I had)
1 can diced tomatoes
1 pkg fresh mushrooms sliced
olive oil
Oregano, italian seasoning (either/or)
s&p
parmegean cheese
Dreamfields low carb pasta (optional)
Dice onion and bell pepper to your liking. Brown pepper and onion in olive oil. Add pork and brown. Then I added the mushrooms to give them a little time to soften before adding the diced tomatoes. Finish by adding the tomatoes and olives. Let it simmer for 5ish minutes to get all the flavors melded together. Quite yummy. Add s&p to taste, and serve with parmegean cheese on top and low carb noodles on bottom. An alternative to plain old spaghetti.

New Slipcovers

So after sitting on makeshift curtain slipcovers to keep the weimaraner's grimy paws off my white couch, I finally broke down and made some real slipcovers that didnt constantly slip off. I was aiming for a quirky arrangement of colors and patterns with the pillows and covers, but when the green fabric met the fluorescent lights it unexpectedly began to GLOW. So we will see if I can get used to it or have to chuck it a week from now. I'm not likin it at the present. I haven't done the pillows yet; i need a backing for them all. They are just draped over the old ones. The patterns will just be on the front. Not having matching patterns is something I always like when other people do it, but never seem to quite pull it off to my liking, myself. So, we will see if I can pull these off. Also, I always do something mindlessly stupid in every sewing project I take on. This time while I was cutting the excess material from the hem, I cut a V-shape in the fabric of one of the corners of the slipcovers that had already been sewn. So I tactfully put a piece of painter's tape on the back to hold it together and zigzag stitched it back together. It's going to be my new signature I think :)
