Sewing inspired by Denise Cosby

So I thought I would try out some clothes makin. With visions in my head of that Cosby episode where Denise makes Theo a Gordon Gartrell designer shirt, you know
I ventured to
the dollar fabric rack at Walmart, and found these...

Not too shabby I thought ($1.50/yrd really but still), and then delved into patterns. I was really focusing on things that looked not too piecey, or elaborate, because I am quite aware of my limitations as a skilled seamstress. These seemed the most beginner friendly, and they were only $3.44.
I made skirt B, and I looked like a mermaid. However I forgot to take a picture of it before I chopped it up, so I created a reenactment of the mermaid suit for blogging purposes. It looks better when the table wears it, I promise you.
So, I decided to chop the bottom flounciness off for the most part leaving a ruffle at the bottom. It was a good first attempt I think, but not yet wear it in public quality, not due solely from my pathetic hem-work (though it left something to be desired), but the fabric was cheap like I said and didn't lay well atoll.

And the directions SUCKED. Maybe my sewing jargon knowledge is lacking, but I really think they gave me little to go on.

I think the skirt is cute! Get some ribbon or rick rack or something and top stitch it over the ugly hem--if it is really that ugly. It looks fine from here. Also, gimmie a holla before you make that shirt. I have that same pattern and I will give you a tip or two pertaining to it.

Also, since you hemmed after the "alterations" it would be harder, but i almost always hem before i gather anything....when it is laying nice and flat it is way easier to do that double fold thing with the iron.

Yeah, that was the part of the directions that threw me to begin with. #1 was "sew front to back...which made everything round! Stupid.
